Hi! I'm Colette and I'm so glad you are here! Here's a little personal info about me and the blog.
I am a 30-year-old Civil Engineer from the Philadelphia area. I moved from
Philadelphia to the suburbs in 2012 and started this blog to chronicle the
building of our new construction home. Once we moved in I realized that there
was still a lot of work to be done to make our new house a home, so I decided to
continue my reporting on all of our house projects and endeavors. I love painting, building, measuring, DIY-ing and learning as I go.
I am happily married to the most wonderful man I've ever met (except for
maybe my Dad :)). Greg and I met at the Jersey shore (not the one on the TV
show) in 2007. Between 2010, when we got married, and 2012, we lived in 4 different
houses... First, my condo in Old City Philadelphia (which I still own and rent
out). Then a house in the Art Museum area of Philadelphia that my dad and
brother flipped (the house and my brother were actually featured on the DIY Network show
Money Hunters. You can watch the episode here... look
for the "This Old Townhouse" episode). Then we lived with my dad while our house was
being built. And now we are finally settled our very own brand new house!
Greg and I share our home with our rabbit Peter, who has his own
bedroom. No children yet, but I am Godmother of both of those cuties below. Greg and I
are hoping to start a family soon, but in the meantime we are taking the advice
of pretty much everyone we talk to and getting as much done on our house as we
can before the kiddies come. Everyone assumes that a new construction house is
completely "move-in ready", but we're finding there's still a lot of work to do...
It's just a blank slate with not much character and I'm trying desperately to
change that!
Some fun facts about me:
I have a boring 9-5 job so this blog is my
creative outlet. I play co-ed soccer twice a week and it's the best two hours
of my week... I really miss competitive sports! I am addicted to detective
shows... Criminal Minds, , Hawaii Five-O, NCIS and Law & Order SVU are my
favorites. (I have a serious crush on Elliot Stabler and I'm so bummed he left
the show). I also have what some might think is an unhealthy love of vampires.
I love vampire books, shows and movies... (but only the sexy ones, not the
scary ones like in 30 Days of Night... that movie was just terrifying)! I need
coffee every morning. I could eat pizza or mashed potatoes every single day
(but I try not to). I have a fatal allergy to tree nuts. I hate cleaning. I love adventure (see below). I
worry way more than any sane person should worry. My mom died when I was 24. She was my best friend. It's the most horrible and life-changing thing that
ever happened to me. I miss her every day, but I try to stay positive and honor
her memory. I love to laugh. Liar Liar is my go-to movie when I need a good
chuckle session.
Some of my favorite memories from our action-packed honeymoon in Hawaii |
I hope you will follow along as I journal all of our DIY projects. I am so
happy you stopped by! Please stay a while and maybe even
leave a comment or two :).
XOXO,
Colette
Great profile! I 100% agree with you on the move in ready of a new home: so not true :) The good thing is that it is a blank slate but there is a LOT to take on still! We built the model home of our builder and made several changes but I still envision the model home when I walk through which means I'm ready to walk through and have it feel like "our home". Your blog inspires me and I'm so glad you post often of projects, I hope to do the same !
ReplyDeleteThanks Britni! I hope you continue to post often too... I'm in love with your house and I can't wait to see how you make it "yours".
DeleteThis is a great "About Me" page. The first picture looks like it belongs in a magazine highlighting different careers.
ReplyDeleteInspiring, informative, and innovative!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great profile! Thanks for sharing your stories and inspiration. Love from SITS!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from #SITSBlogging -- I could also eat pizza every day! Love that you guys are giving character to your new home -- I think that's what will actually make it feel like a home, right?
ReplyDeleteOh girl. Vampire things are so my guilty pleasure. I'm a closet vampire show watcher/reader and never bring it up unless someone else does first! Ha!!
ReplyDeleteHaha... they are the best!! I have to watch when my husband isn't around though... he just rolls his eyes at me.
DeleteYou are giving a lot of personality to that home and putting all of the creative energy to good use. You're making a house a home! Keep it going...#SITSBlogging.
ReplyDeleteI went to UD! (didn't graduate from there though lol)
ReplyDeleteGreat about me page, so thorough!
#sitsblogging visitor here.
Congrats on the new house! I am one of those naive people who thought newly constructed homes were move-in ready. There, I learned something new today! I can't wait to follow along and see how you slowly turn your house into a home. (Visiting from #SITSblogging and spreading the comment love)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!!
DeleteYour house look very much like my grandparents (they live in York, PA). It is lovely!! Looks like you are living one adventure after another- what great material you will have to blog about! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so thrilled I found your blog! I've not run into many bloggers that are around my age (I'll be 30 this year) so I'm excited to read more from someone that I can relate to! (And yes, I've bookmarked your blog!) #sitsblogging

I'm following your blog too! Happy early 30th... it was a tough one for me!
DeleteSuch a nice profile, Colette! One thing I'd change in general is the font size of the regular text on the blog, it's a bit on the small side for me :) Happy to meet you through the SITS Commenting challenge :)
ReplyDeleteTerrific profile! We have a few things in common: I love detective shows, I could eat pizza every day, and I need coffee every morning. :) #SITSblogging
ReplyDeleteGreat about page and wonderful pictures :) I need to enhance my about page after seeing yours. Great job!!!!!!! #SITSBlogging love
ReplyDeleteSuch a terrific profile and an inspiring blog! I will follow your blog as we build our Ryan home and even after it's built to get inspiration for future projects.
ReplyDeleteGreat profile, one of the best ones I've read yet! I had to chuckle about your vampire addiction - 30 Days of Night was one of my husband's films (he's in the industry). Your house looks amazing - so much space in the US (we live in London). Enjoy!
