I said I was not going to buy any furniture until after we moved in. That
didn't happen. I held off until less than two weeks before settlement, so I
don't think that's too bad. :)
Our plan is to use our small table and chairs in our dinette area for now
and make the morning room into more of a sitting/relaxing area. I figure we
don't need a big table in the morning room for just the two of us. I decided to
buy patio furniture for the morning room, so that when we convert that room to a
dining area in the future, we can move the furniture right on outside to our
deck or patio.
Here's what we got:
It was on sale at Target for $449.50 (originally $899). This decision was
made after looking at Macy's, Sears, Pier1 and a few other stores and finding
nothing we liked for less than $1,000. It says we can return it within 90 days
so if we hate it when we receive it, I will just send it right back!
Here an olioboard representation of my general plan for our
kitchen/morning room (with my actual furniture set to the backdrop of my actual space... so cool!). I feel
like the proportions are a little off because it's hard to portray depth in 2D,
but you get the general idea.
I'll have to take some better backdrop pictures once they clean the house! |
What do you think of the chrome bar stools for the island? I love the retro look
(and I found a set of 2 on craigslist for $40!), but I'm not sure if they work
in such a traditional kitchen.
*colette* what is your theme for your kitchen? And does it fit into your theme? Even though they are retro they could work if you are creating a eclectic theme which mixes and matches pieces of furniture from each etc etc
ReplyDeleteI guess it depends on the decoration of the space, but I would think something complimentary between the dinette and the barstools would work better. In the end the space is what you make it, have fun! : )
ReplyDeleteI think the stools are cool but might not fit your overall decor...I have my daughter to keep me in line LOL! It's just the hub and I empty nesters so we too are using the morning room as another seating area. I am using a love seat, not outdoor furniture and have a gathering counter height table for the hub and I. Whatever stools I get can use at the gathering table. Decorating is so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI was beginning to think we were the only ones who didn't use our morning room as a dining area! Good to know we aren't alone. We are empty nesters as well, so we put a pub height table and stools in the kitchenette that we ordered from an Amish furniture maker and two matching stools at the breakfast bar. We bought a colorful love seat and chair for the morning room. I love the idea of outdoor furniture that we could have moved to the patio when it is finished, though. Wish we'd thought of that. And I love the black you chose !! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteDo you happen to have any pictures of your morning room/kitchen set-up that you could share? I'm curious to see how it looks as a seating area.
DeleteI love the Amish furniture! I'm going shopping in Lancaster in a few weeks and I can't wait!
I do have pictures but, sadly, I am blog illiterate and wouldn't have any idea how to post them. It took me forever to figure out how to comment on these blogs!
